Ojai Film Society - Scholarships

In 2005, the Ojai Film Society’s Scholarship honored Ojai resident John Bennett Perry for his talent and contributions to the national acting scene, both in film and in legitimate theater, and for his contributions to the Ojai-Ventura community.

OFS Film Studies Scholarships

The Ojai Film Society Scholarship program was founded in 1996 with a dual purpose: to assist a promising local area film studies student in furthering his or her career, and to honor area individuals who have made significant contributions to our community and to the film industry.

In 2006, the Ojai Film Studies Scholarship honored Larry Hagman, an Ojai resident and star of both television and feature films who, with his wife Maj, has made innumerable contributions to the local community. Larry Hagman is known worldwide for playing J.R. Ewing in Dallas. The Who shot J.R.? episode remains the second-highest rated show in the history of television. Currently 20th Century Fox is casting for the movie, Dallas.

Applicants for the 2007 Film Studies Scholarship must be residents of Ventura County and be enrolled in an accredited film studies program. This year the amount of the Scholarship is $5,000.

Funding for the Scholarship is dependent upon local residents who appreciate the extraordinary service the Ojai Film Society provides every Sunday afternoon at the Ojai Playhouse, and from people who wish to encourage gifted young filmmakers from Ventura County.
